China is investing heavily in AI weather forecasting as Typhoon Dolphin hit its coast. Three home-grown systems lead the effort: Fengwu from Shanghai AI Laboratory, Pangu from Huawei, and Fuxi from Fudan University. Fengwu reportedly outperformed Google DeepMind's GraphCast on 80% of variables and predicted Dolphin's landfall within 30 minutes and 30km.
