Atlassian migrated its metrics platform from gostatsd to OpenTelemetry, handling data from about 100,000 hosts across 14 regions while maintaining a 99.95% SLO. The company kept the StatsD interface, rebuilt the pipeline behind it, and cut data volume by roughly 96%, from 4.8 billion to 220 million data points per minute. It open-sourced a custom aggregation processor.
