The Federal Communications Commission voted Thursday to advance a proposal opening 482 MHz of spectrum for satellite service on phones. This move allows SpaceX to compete with Verizon and AT&T by raising eligible bands from five to 13. The FCC also advanced a companion item proposing an auction of 25 MHz in specific bands for terrestrial or direct-to-device service.
