OpenAI Unveils AI Research Intern at DevDay

At DevDay 2026 in San Francisco, Sam Altman told 2,500 developers OpenAI now has an AI research intern, a goal set a year ago. Research lead Tejal Patwardhan said models complete over a third of day-long research tasks unaided and have solved more than 100 long-open maths problems. OpenAI also launched a cheaper GPT-6.1 Sol model, a $500 Pro plan and a faster Ultrafast tier.
