Japan launched the MMX mission to Mars' moon Phobos today using the H3 rocket. The spacecraft will arrive in August 2027, spend three years studying the 14-mile-wide moon, and deploy the IDEFIX rover in late 2028 or early 2029. It plans to return samples to Australia in 2031.
