Proofpoint says a China-linked group, TA419, impersonated American AI experts to phish think tank, university and law firm staff working on AI policy, export controls and national strategy. From February, hackers posed as an Anthropic employee and former officials Lynne Parker and Caroline Crebo-Rediker. Fewer than ten people were targeted, suggesting interest in US policy rather than technology theft.
