Volkswagen studied a gas range-extender for the ID. Buzz but abandoned the idea due to packaging constraints. The MEB platform's short overhangs left no room for a combustion engine. VW sold 60,700 ID. Buzz vans in 2025, with only 6,140 in North America. A new multi-energy Space platform is being developed for future LCVs.
