New data from India's Chandrayaan-1 mission provides mineralogical evidence for an ancient, obliterated impact basin in the Moon's Mare Australe region. Researchers from the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad used the Moon Mineralogy Mapper to find a circular distribution of orthopyroxene, delineating the boundary of the previously suggested Australe Basin. The study, published in The Planetary Science Journal, points to a dual-impact scenario involving two basins in the lunar south.
