Microsoft's Xbox division plans to reach more than a billion people each day after laying off 1,600 employees this summer and another 1,600 next year. Four internal studios, Double Fine, Compulsion Games, Undead Labs, and Ninja Theory, are being spun out as independent developers. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma says the company lost 64 cents for every dollar invested in a typical year.
