Apple considered laying off about 5,000 support employees and replacing some with AI phone and web agents, but Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports the plan is now on hold indefinitely. Apple has already routed US and Canada AppleCare calls to a generative AI assistant. It also cut roughly half a dozen middle-management directors in recent weeks.
