Researchers from UChicago, Harvard, Stony Brook and Quantinuum used 54 qubits on Quantinuum's H2 processor to combine braiding and fusion of non-Abelian anyons, demonstrating a universal gate set published in Nature. This first experimental proof could enable fault-tolerant quantum computing without costly magic state distillation, though active error correction remains untested.
