First Binary Supernova Remnants Found

Astronomers may have detected the first pair of supernova remnants from a binary star system. Research published in Nature Communications identifies IC 443 and G189.6+3.3 as likely siblings. Using 16 years of Fermi Large Area Telescope data, the team found a one-in-1,000 chance the alignment is coincidental.
