Google DeepMind's WeatherNext Cyclones, an AI model, gave the National Hurricane Center roughly 80% confidence in Hurricane Melissa's rapid intensification and Jamaica landfall five days out, rising to nearly 100% three days before. A Nature study found it delivers an extra day of predictive accuracy, matching a decade of traditional forecasting progress. The model is open-sourced on GitHub.
