Star Catcher Tests Space-Based Laser Power Beaming

Star Catcher, a Jacksonville startup, is launching its Protostar prototype on a SpaceX rocket this week to beam laser energy to an untethered cubesat, aiming for the first such power transfer between free-flying objects. The company has raised $65 million, won a $30 million Space Force award, and signed 10 power purchase agreements. Success could enable orbital data centers and satellite power services.
