Chinese cities are luring AI filmmakers with subsidised rent, living allowances and cheap computing, Reuters reported. Beijing set up a 260 million yuan fund for film and video technology, while Shanghai and Shenzhen offer computing capacity and rent breaks. AI short drama production costs fell from 5,000 yuan per minute to a few hundred yuan by mid-2026.
