Germany's Infineon opens major chip plant as EU seeks tech autonomy

German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon opened a five-billion-euro microchip factory in Dresden on July 2. The Smart Power Fab produces chips for electric vehicles and artificial intelligence using EU subsidies to reduce dependency on Asia and the United States. Production operates twenty-four hours daily with three shifts.
