macOS 27.0 Adds Mysterious /pkg Directory
2 min read
On October 18, 2026, a user discovered that macOS 27.0 includes a new root-level /pkg directory added to the PATH list. This filesystem change follows the addition of the directory to the Data volume in macOS 26.4, though Apple has not yet explained its purpose or the meaning of the pmk entry in the configuration file.
