RBI Flags Technology as Banks' Core Risk

RBI Deputy Governor Rohit Jain told the SBI Banking Conclave that technology architecture is becoming banks' risk architecture, urging lenders to treat technology risk as a first-order enterprise risk. He cited cyberattacks, channel outages and the 2024 CrowdStrike disruption, and said AI governance must precede scale as UPI processed 24.9 billion transactions worth about Rs 30 lakh crore in August 2026.
