AI writing tools can shift public opinion, study finds

Oxford and Hasso Plattner Institute researchers found that AI writing tools subtly shift the position of social media posts, even when instructed to keep the original meaning. The tilts were consistent across systems, nudging posts toward gun control, marijuana legalization, and feminism, and against atheism and the death penalty. Simulations using data from X and Facebook showed these small edits can accumulate and drag community opinion over time.
