Amazon S3 launched annotations, a metadata capability that stores up to 1,000 named annotations per object, each up to 1 MB, totaling 1 GB per object. Annotations support JSON, XML, YAML, or plain text and can be modified without rewriting objects. They automatically flow into queryable annotation tables for analytics engines like Athena.
