Microsoft shifts to own AI models to cut costs

Microsoft is reportedly transitioning from OpenAI and Anthropic AI models to its own MAI models to cut costs. It now uses MAI models for some prompts in Excel and Word. At Build, Microsoft launched seven new MAI models including an agentic coder and text-to-image generator.
