Gulf builds subsea cables to bypass data chokepoints

Gulf states are racing to build alternative subsea cable routes as over 90% of Europe-Asia data traffic flows through Egypt and the Red Sea. Qatari Ooredoo's $500 million Fibre in the Gulf system, set for late 2027, will span nearly 2,000 kilometers and bypass the Suez Canal and Bab-el-Mandeb strait.
