Why schools remain one of cybercriminals' favourite targets

Evanston Township High School near Chicago was hit by a ransomware attack on June 7, 2026, forcing a two-day campus closure. The attack knocked out computer systems, phone lines, and critical building safety systems including door access controls. The school notified the FBI and locked down staff accounts.
