CBN shifts eNaira from wallet to payments infrastructure

The Central Bank of Nigeria's Payments System Vision 2028 strategy repositions the eNaira from a standalone digital wallet to infrastructure underpinning Nigeria's digital payments ecosystem. The shift follows the CBDC's struggle to gain adoption since its October 2021 launch, as it offered little advantage over existing bank apps and fintech wallets.
