Pentagon leaders observe laser-weapon tests in New Mexico

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Pentagon CTO Emil Michael attended a demonstration of laser and microwave weapons in New Mexico. It marked the first known instance of a sitting U.S. defense secretary observing a live directed-energy weapon firing. Directed-energy weapons are emerging as a cheap drone countermeasure but have yet to see wide real-world adoption.
