A Nature study of 1,966 US adults tracked ten social technologies every three months. Bayesian and frequentist models found little evidence that use predicts later life satisfaction. Texting correlated with higher satisfaction across people, while YouTube and TikTok correlated with lower satisfaction. The authors conclude scant evidence of a meaningful within-person relationship.
