University of Groningen researchers found tin-based perovskite solar cells can slow hot-electron cooling by roughly 1,000 times, keeping excess energy from sunlight from escaping as waste heat. That could let panels exceed the theoretical 33% efficiency limit for conventional cells. The work was done with Maria Antonietta Loi's group in the Netherlands.
