A tiny twist creates giant magnetic skyrmions in 2D crystals

Researchers observed magnetic skyrmions spanning ~300 nm in twisted double bilayer chromium triiodide, far exceeding the moiré unit cell size. The magnetic textures peaked at a 1.1° twist angle and vanished above ~2°, revealing magnetism is governed by competing forces, not just the moiré pattern.
