Chinese AI lab builds Nvidia-free data centre

Z.AI, formerly Zhipu, built a 1-gigawatt data centre using only Chinese-made chips. The site trains GLM models across clusters of over 10,000 chips each, with no Nvidia hardware. The buildout follows US export controls blocking Nvidia's most powerful chips and comes as Moonshot's Kimi K3 ran short of compute.
