GitHub Launches Rubicon Storage Architecture

GitHub announced its new Git storage architecture, named Rubicon, at GitHub Universe in May 2026. The system handles 5,000 concurrent agents and 7,200 pushes per second by decoupling storage from compute. It moves 99.99999% of repositories into Azure and uses virtual replicas to scale independently. This design supports agentic development for hundreds of millions of developers.
