Metra Debuts First US Battery-Electric Commuter Train

Metra will exhibit the first US battery-electric FLIRT locomotive from Stadler at the APTA conference in Chicago this Sunday. The trainset, first of eight ordered, replaces diesel on the Rock Island Line's Beverly branch. Passenger service is expected before the end of 2027, with a 45 to 65 mile range and 30-minute 20-80% charging.
