New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed an executive order in July to pause data center development, overriding a stricter state bill. While 53 percent of voters trust Hochul on AI, 63 percent oppose future centers. At least 20 gubernatorial candidates have promised similar moratoriums or stricter regulations as they prepare for upcoming elections.
