Uber announces stronger background checks for drivers

Uber permanently bans drivers with sexual, stalking, or strangulation convictions. Background checks now cover the driver's entire lifetime instead of seven years. The changes follow lawsuits alleging Uber failed to prevent sexual assault and did not screen out drivers with violent felony convictions.
