Researchers at the Simons Foundation's Flatiron Institute and Boston University used an ordinary laptop, tensor networks, and the ITensor software to model hundreds of interacting qubits. The classical simulations matched results previously obtained on a quantum computer. The approach could expand the range of quantum dynamics problems scientists can study without quantum hardware.
