Startup's nuclear-inspired cooling system could make data centers more sustainable

Ferveret, an MIT spinout, adapts nuclear reactor cooling for data centers. The system submerges servers in a liquid that absorbs heat more efficiently than air. Smaller bubbles at the server surface detach more frequently, accelerating heat transfer. Data centers could use 9 to 17 percent of U.S. electricity by decade end, with a third spent on cooling.
