OpenAI is reportedly adding a persistent, always-on mode to its coding agent Codex, spotted in the command-line version's GitHub code. The feature, called Persistent mode, works until a user puts it to sleep and includes a reasoning effort option. A Proactivity feature would let the agent create follow-up tasks without prompting.
