Bangladesh Tribunal Sentences 7 Awami League Leaders to Death

Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced seven senior Awami League leaders to death in absentia for crimes against humanity related to the 2024 student-led July Uprising. The verdict was delivered by a three-member tribunal headed by Justice Mohammad Nazrul Islam Chowdhury. The accused, including General Secretary Obaidul Quader, were tried for directing or inciting violence during protests that toppled former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government on August 5, 2024.
