British engineer Tommy Flowers designed Colossus, the world's first programmable electronic computer, to decrypt high-speed German teletype messages during World War II. The machine cracked the Lorenz cipher, which was far more advanced than the Enigma system. Colossus operated at Bletchley Park and remained secret for decades.
