Volta Via Tests Electric Road Construction

Volta Via partners examine electrifying road construction sites, projecting 80 per cent fewer emissions by 2027 and 97 per cent by 2050. A summer 2026 trial in Oberhausen deployed eleven electric machines including a 25-tonne excavator. Operating costs could drop to one-eighth of current levels by 2050 under optimal conditions, though grid availability remains a critical constraint for high-power machinery.
