NHTSA targets electronic door exit safety rules

NHTSA began rulemaking for federal safety standards covering emergency door exit systems in vehicles with electronic releases. The agency cited the need for a more robust and obvious egress system. Congress introduced the SAFE Exit Act citing 15 deaths linked to hard-to-find manual releases.
