US Chip Fabs Face 157,000 Worker Shortfall

The SEMI Foundation warns the US could lack up to 157,000 semiconductor and microelectronics workers by 2030. Only 3% of US engineering graduates enter the industry, and 73% of chip companies report significant recruiting difficulties. Samsung, Micron, SK Hynix, TSMC and Intel are expanding US fabs, while Samsung and SK Hynix bring in South Korean workers temporarily.
