Why is WebAssembly a second-class language on the web?

WebAssembly has added shared memories, SIMD, exception handling, tail calls, 64-bit memories, and GC support since 2017. Despite these improvements, it lacks tight integration with the web platform. This poor developer experience pushes most users to JavaScript, limiting WebAssembly adoption to large companies.
