Xbox may test disc-to-digital feature Positron

Microsoft may bring Positron to Xbox Insiders next week, turning physical game discs into transferable digital licenses. Inserting a compatible Xbox One or Series X disc creates a digital license linked to that copy. The license follows the disc when another user inserts it, allowing resale or lending without permanent duplicates.
