DRAM prices are killing the cheap smartphone

Memory costs now consume nearly 60 percent of the bill of materials for sub-$400 smartphones, according to Omdia. TrendForce predicts DRAM prices will jump another 50 percent or more in 2026. Sub-$400 shipments are expected to drop 22 percent year-on-year in 2026 as manufacturers shift production toward higher-priced devices.
