Microsoft is retiring SMS and voice authentication for Entra ID, citing AI-powered phishing. Starting September 1, Entra users must set up passkeys during sign-in. On February 1, 2027, passkeys become mandatory with no opt-out. Personal Microsoft accounts are also phasing out SMS authentication.
