Himalayan Flood Leaves Thousands Missing

A glacial collapse caused a massive flood and mudslide that destroyed the Nepal-China border crossing at Gyirong Port on August 26. The disaster killed at least 1,386 people in Nepal and 43 in China, with 5,130 and 519 people reported missing in each country respectively. Rescue efforts are hampered by 2.2 million tons of debris, and information flow to families has slowed.
