OpenAI hired Google DeepMind AI legend Noam Shazeer and former Trump White House AI policy official Dean Ball ahead of its IPO. Shazeer co-authored the seminal 2017 Transformer paper and founded Character AI. Ball will lead a new Strategic Futures team focused on frontier AI policy.
