Telus filed an application with the CRTC in May 2026 to reinstate a 60-day device locking period for subsidized smartphones to prevent theft and fraud. The carrier plans to start locking devices on July 30, 2026. The CRTC banned device locking in 2017 and is currently reviewing consumer protection codes.
