Antarctica cable via Drake Passage deemed viable

A fiber-optic cable across the Drake Passage is technically viable, per Chile's finalized feasibility study. The 1,600km route to Chile could replace satellite links and hard-drive shipments for Antarctic research bases. Salience Consulting and Pioneer Consulting ran the study for telecom regulator Subtel, financed by CAF and MCDF.
