Microsoft Word Bug Saves PDFs to Wrong Folder

Microsoft confirmed a bug in Word for Windows version 2609 where saving a PDF to SharePoint Online instead writes the file to a local cache folder with a random name, and no error appears. The issue only occurs via Save or Save As; the Export option works. Microsoft has not said when a fix will arrive.
